Late on Saturday night (May 2nd) we ventured 'Into The Wild' for the Beltane Fire Festival, escaping the hustle and bustle of London. We arrived, put our tent up in the dark, in the rain, rugged up and then went in to relax and enjoy some wonderful live music before bed.
The next day we woke to typical dismal English weather and strong winds threatening to blow the yoga tent away. In order to ensure the tent would remain on the ground we had to remove the walls, leaving us with a rather chilly yoga area. But, we rugged up (a new discovery - yoga with coats) and began a fantastic session of Humandala and Partner Yoga. We had a wonderful mix of people, with different body types and levels of experience. It's so lovely to have kids and adults interacting in the session, learning how to move and stretch with partners of different sizes and weights.
Communication is paramount and this session was no exception. It was good to learn about different ways to adapt poses to accommodate any injuries, making the stretch more gentle. It was also important to become aware of the capabilities of each person's body and support each other in deepening the stretch, especially when working with someone new. The meditation at the end really symbolised how Partner Yoga brings people together. Maybe it was also the overwhelming feeling of openness and acceptance that Into the Wild cultivates, but seeing friends, fathers and daughters and also people who had never met before come together and trust and relax, experiencing the joy of human touch was really powerful.
We enjoyed a session full of giggles and learning, despite the cold wind and we were rewarded with the sun coming out and the rain clearing up. A big thank you to all those involved in organising Into the Wild and for inviting us to be part of it. It really did provide a very necessary and relaxing escape from an otherwise busy weekend in London.
We look forward to seeing you again at Into The Wild later this year....
